Sept, 30th – Oct 4th 2024 – Recently, our team returned to Brussels for #EUOceanWeek, where we proudly joined Seas At Risk as a new network member. We took part in a pivotal launch at the European Parliament: Alongside over 140 partner organizations the Blue Manifesto – A Roadmap to a Healthy Ocean by 2030 was unveiled. This powerful document outlines concrete steps for the newly elected EU decision-makers to protect the ocean.

We’re thrilled that the demand of our EU Citizens’ Initiative is echoed in this vital manifesto: “As requested by citizens in the European Citizens’ Initiative, the European Commission proposes legislation addressing the international shark fin trade.

While in Brussels, our team took every opportunity to advocate for sharks, build alliances, and deepen our understanding of the new constitution of the European Parliament. With recent elections, new representatives are in charge, and the landscape has shifted. This means now, more than ever, we must ensure that these decision-makers hear us loud and clear: Killing sharks for their fins must end!

Throughout #EUOceanWeek, we scheduled several in-person meetings with newly elected Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and participated in as many events as possible to shine a spotlight on sharks and the EU’s role in the shark fin industry.

Our latest insights from the heart of EU policy-making are crystal clear: A #FinBanNow won’t happen on its own. To achieve this, we must actively engage with decision-makers and connect with new allies who are ready to stand up for shark conservation.

If you want that sharks have a voice in Brussels, please contribute with your generous donation here.

Let´s ensure the momentum for sharks and a #FinBanNow continues. Thank you!
